How We Serve
Food Insecurity
We address food insecurity through several initiatives:
-
Sandwich Making: Twice a month, we prepare ham and cheese sandwiches for the Haven of Rest.
-
Monthly Food Collection: Each month during our worship service, we collect food for local food pantries, alternating between Goodyear Heights Good Neighbors Unit and Christ Woodland Methodist Church.
-
Community Dinners: Every other month, we host a community dinner open to everyone, including families in the WYDACA child care program held at our church.
-
Christmas Support: At Christmas, we distribute food baskets or gift cards to families in need, in collaboration with the Salvation Army.
-
Acme Grocery Cash Back: We collect Acme grocery cash back tapes to fund our projects.
Personal Care Items
We provide personal care items to various organizations:
-
RAHAB: We support RAHAB, a program for those affected by human trafficking.
-
Undie Sunday: In June, we collect new underwear for all ages and genders, distributed to WYDACA day care center, ACCESS (supporting women and children fleeing unsafe situations), and Haven of Rest (supporting men).
-
Giving Thanks Tree: In the fall, we collect scarves, hats, and gloves, which are then given to ACCESS.
Presbyterian Church Programming
We participate in multiple Presbyterian Church-sponsored programs that assist people both locally and globally:
-
Missionary Support: We support missionaries Sharon Kandel in Juba, South Africa, and Jeff and Kristy Boyd in the Republic of Congo.
-
Local Assistance: A portion of our collected funds remains with Westminster to support local agencies such as Fostering Independence (helping youth aging out of foster care), Victory Gallop (building self-esteem in children through caring for horses), ILP (a dance group for underprivileged children), and CANOPI (an LGBTQ group assisting with medical needs).
Prayer Quilt Ministry
On the third Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am, our Prayer Quilt Ministry gathers at the church to create quilts for members of our church family in need of support. Whether you sew, arrange squares, or add the finishing touches, all are welcome to join us in this heartfelt endeavor.
Celtic Garden
Our volunteers meet weekly in the warm weather months to tend to the beautiful Celtic Garden, that is used to provide fresh flowers for services and events. You don't have to have a "green thumb" to join in. Everyone is welcome!
Thank You!
The Outreach Committee extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who has donated items, time, or funds to support our initiatives.
